Surface Pro as Gemini catamaran chart plotter?

The laptop being used on YachtAFun is a 2007 model Toshiba Satellite P205- which is to say it is BIG. It’s heavy, and compared to 2016 standards- it’s slow. And…… the CD drive is not replaceable, which means I have to use an external disk drive. To get the headphone jack to work well, I have to insert the pin “just right”.

All that said, I wasn’t enthused about taking money out of the bank to buy a new computer until I realized I could use a Surface Pro with MapTech chart software and skip having a dedicated chart plotter.

Well, I think I can use the Surface Pro as a chart plotter- if I add a GPS connection (or Blue Tooth version).

My research on the subject has begun concerning Surface Pro equipment.

Meanwhile, our iPad using NavX software works fine- but it seems to need cell tower connection to stay functional.
