Granddaughter Payton came to visit us for the 4th of July weekend and for the balance of the week. The high point of our visit was the “bear hunt”. In 2010 some 50 fiberglass bear statues were custom painted and placed about New Bern NC as part of the city’s 300th anniversary.
We exited our Gemini catamaran and started our hunt (with coded map in hand) at the New Bern Visitor’s Center where we encountered Kare Bear.
Of the 21 bears within the immediate area, we found all but Freedom Bear, which is supposed to be close to Tryon Palace.
Sailor Bear was naturally a favorite.
Honey I’m Home Bear was relocated to the Coldwell Banker offices on Middle Street- which is right at the New Bern Grand Marina where Yacht A Fun is docked.
Note the hand truck cart for Zoey. About half way thru the Bear Hunt, her legs got tired- so I went back to our catamaran and made up her transportation.
There’s lots to tell about our New Bern visit. But not much blogging time has been available while entertaining a high energy six year old. I’ve put in more pool time in a week than in two months last summer!
