NC 4th of July Festival / Day 1 of 3

Technically, the NC 4th of July Festival began on Wednesday, the 1st, on Oak Island. Beginning at 9AM there were: Youth Activities; a Sand Sculpture Contest; the Skating Competition; a Shag dancing Contest; A Beach Day Concern; and 9PM fireworks. Diann and I didn’t venture there.

Nor did we take advantage of the Dozen+ activities listed for Thursday in Southport. We did, however, participate in the Friday through Sunday Southport events.

Meeting up with David and Gail, friends from Denver, NC who have their boat at Deep Point Marina, we drove into the Waterfront Park area and took advantage of the Food Concessions on South Howe Street.

From there we toured the arts and crafts at Franklin Square Park.

Of particular note is the artist Kyung Park from Georgia.

Diann could not resist getting a visor and sun glasses for Zoey. The display which caught our attention is a toy dog head with the gear on…..

It being hot, David and I decided that a beer in the garden at “The Market” would be a good idea.

And it was. From there we walked a bit more and then headed back to Deep Point Marina- where I found the swimming pool!
