St Augustine January 2019

This is the third time Yacht A Fun has moored in the Municipal Marina Mooring Field.  The last time was in 2015 when our steering had failed.  This time has, so far, been way more fun.  We are here, however, because we decided to not have the radar dome installed at Green Cove Springs.  As of this writing, we are on hold for the date we can have it done here.  One of the marina boat yards is eight weeks out!

We arrived in St Augustine to find three other couples who had just arrived from New Bern. Drinks and dinner were a must.  Ann O’Malley’s  had a $2 draft happy hour.  That was stop one.

A1A also has a happy hour ($2 off wine by the glass) and a varied menu.  So we ended up there.  Plus it’s across the street from the dinghy docks.

The next day Diann and I did a walk around.  And more walking and looking was done……

Having poked our head into a number of restaurants, we have a pretty good feel for the value locations.  Ann O’Malley’s on Wednesdays is the best for cruisers.  Happy hour drafts are $2; wine is $4 with a full pour; and the owner brings in a free dinner.  The one in the photo was ground beef over rice topped with cheese.  The experience was our least expensive dinner in quite a while!
