Yacht A Fun, our Gemini sailing catamaran, is moored in the Marathon Florida Dinner Key Mooring Field. It was therefore easy for me to attend the Wednesday meeting of the local Rotary Club. The Rotary visit resulted in me meeting John Bartus, Club President, and past Mayor of Marathon.
John is a musician, along with being publisher of a local tourist oriented advertising magazine. During our conversation he mentioned playing on Thursday night at Sparky’s Landing Restaurant. So, afterward I did a web search on Sparky’s and found that it has one of the area’s best happy hours.
Not only are beverages discounted, you can get thumb sized shrimp for 25 cents each and hot wings for the same price.
After Thursday boat activities, Diann and I showered and made it to Sparky’s Landing just after 5PM.
The $3.25 mixed drinks were good, the shrimp and hot wings even better! As a result, the place was packed with folks- many who are retired and living in the area full time. Low prices do seem to attract retired people.
John Bartus cranked up on schedule at 6:30PM. Not only did he have his guitar, but also a tambourine and shaker to add to the electronic accompaniment to his playing and singing.
Spotting Diann, and me, in the audience, he did a pair of Carolina songs back to back.
Sparky’s has got to be one of the better values in the area. Thursday’s special is prime-rib for $18.95. The serving is large enough for average diners to share. And….there’s live music and a good waterside view.
