Mom and her friend, Jack, came to Southport to visit Diann and me on Yacht A Fun, our Gemini sailing catamaran. Bald Head Island was to be a day trip for the four of us. Weather was very IF-ie given the incoming rains.
Just in case we were rained out, I made a pot of vegetable soup and had it ready for our late lunch. A “hole” in the rains boosted our courage to venture out- so we ate quickly and boarded the 3PM ferry and went to the island.
A four person golf cart was to be our transportation. Based on the cart rental person’s advice, we immediately took the internal main road to the south eastern corner to see the surf pounding in from Frying Pan Shoals.
It’s a long board walk, with a set of stairs to cross the first dune.
Once thru the beachside dune, the view, and surf sounds, are awesome.
This photo was taken looking NNE.
Thank goodness the temperature was relatively warm- since the rains returned as we boarded the cart to ride back to the ferry area along the beach road.
The four of us got varying degrees of wet. To get warm, we retreated to Mojo’s restaurant for warming beverages for an hour before catching the 6:30 ferry back to Deep Point and Yacht a Fun.
