Pollock Street Pub and Oyster Bar

Word has it that the owners of M J’s restaurant are the ones who have just opened the Pollock Street Pub and Oyster Bar. If that’s true, the new pub / bar should be a success.

Modifications to the former residence were extensive. Colors are inspired by the New Bern NC flag. One can’t miss the yellow building. It is wonderful that the building is close to a variety of parking venues, as well as three marinas.

Wednesday evening after taking out a group for the Cruise the Neuse pontoon tour, I dropped by Pollock Street Pub to check out the beer selection. In addition to the specialty drafts, the bar has a large selection of bottled beer- including Pabst Blue ribbon- which tells me that some form of special pricing will develop as the pub solidifies its staff.

Being the third night of being open, it was obvious that staff was in training mode. And, that’s a positive thing. From our MJ’s experiences, I can only expect that Pollock Street Pub and Oyster Bar will be a local destination spot.

Once the place is fully operational, I’ll update the report and address how much value the oyster aspect will be.

  1. Just ate there with several friends. We had a dozen oysters to start and they were full of shell pieces and had not been lifted from the shell. Not the best presentation- unfortunately! Also, upon leaving, the manager stopped us on our way out and asked how our server was. When we replied “great service” she said really, the server was good? Like she wanted us to say something negative. Very odd encounter. Food overall was just okay – prices were a little high for what you were given. Also, cheap dish ware etc. With all New Bern has to offer in the way of eateries – I doubt any of us will be back.
